This unique wool rug originates from the Konya-Aksaray region of Central Anatolia.
The color scheme, anchored in gold ochre, rust, and oxidized ivory, is derived from madder root, wild daisy, and iron-based mordants—typical of pre-industrial vegetal dye practices in Cappadocia. The eight-pointed stars and diagonal cross leaves bordering the field are associated with the “bereket” motif (fertility and abundance), and the central shield bears a faded elibelinde (hands-on-hips) form—traditionally symbolizing female power and motherhood. The rug’s rare border treatment—with asymmetrical split-leaf vinery and irregular floral medallions—suggests a transitional phase between Ottoman urban influences and tribal village weaves, possibly woven in a dowry context.
Gold Ochre (Wild Daisy/Weld): This luminous yellow is derived from Wild Daisy or Weld, common in Central Anatolia, known for maintaining its brilliance for over a century.
Rust & Terra Cotta (Madder Root): The deep reds and oranges come from Madder root harvested in the volcanic soils of Cappadocia, which produces a unique mineral-rich depth.
Oxidized Ivory (Natural Lanolin/Iron-rich water): The "ivory" is undyed wool, but its specific "oxidized" patina comes from over 100 years of exposure to air and light, a hallmark of true antiques.

Care Instructions
The Deep Clean: Every 2 to 5 years, have the rug professionally "wet-washed" by an Oriental rug specialist.
What to Avoid: Never steam clean or dry clean an Anatolian rug. The heat and chemicals will strip the natural oils from the wool, leaving it brittle and prone to shedding.
