This contemporary Oushak Kilim (150 x 100 cm) is a vibrant example of modern Anatolian weaving, combining traditional symbolism with a bold, saturated color palette. Roughly 10–15 years old, it remains in excellent condition, showcasing the enduring craftsmanship of the Uşak region, historically famous for its medallion and star motifs.

Design & Symbolism

The kilim features three prominent central medallions set against a deep indigo field, each rich with ancestral "Mother Goddess" imagery:

Central Medallions: These rectangular panels contain stylized Elibelinde (hands-on-hips) motifs, the ancient Anatolian symbol for motherhood, fertility, and abundance.

Border Patterns: The outer black border is framed by a Waterway (Su Yolu) zigzag, representing the flow of life and spiritual purification.

Protective Accents: Small, scattered geometric shapes throughout the field—such as the Pitrak (burdock) and "S" motifs—are traditional talismans intended to ward off the "evil eye" and bring good fortune to the home.

Care Instructions

The Deep Clean: Every 2 to 5 years, have the rug professionally "wet-washed" by an Oriental rug specialist.

What to Avoid: Never steam clean or dry clean an Anatolian rug. The heat and chemicals will strip the natural oils from the wool, leaving it brittle and prone to shedding.
