Woven in the late 1990s in the coastal province of Antalya, this rug captures the transition of the Mediterranean sky at twilight. While many regional rugs lean toward earthy ochres, this piece celebrates the bold, saturated jewel tones favored by weavers along the southern coast.

The central magenta field is anchored by four stacked diamond medallions, a motif often used to represent the "Eye" (Nazar)—a protective symbol meant to ward off ill fortune and keep the home a sanctuary in the oriental culture. Surrounding this vibrant core are deep forest greens and lapis blues, colors that mirror the pine-covered Taurus Mountains meeting the sea.

Magenta Field: Derived from Cochineal (natural insect dye) or a heavy concentration of Madder Root, providing a vibrant "lapis-resistant" depth that synthetic dyes cannot achieve.

Forest Green: A traditional over-dyeing process using Indigo over Weld (yellow), creating a multi-dimensional green that doesn't fade into "flat" tones.

Lapis Blue: Pure Natural Indigo fermentation, which gives the rug its lustrous, light-reflective quality.

Now 30 years old, the wool has softened into a lustrous patina. Its substantial 200 x 130 cm size makes it a perfect soul-piece, offering a rich, warm contrast to white plaster walls and aged wood floors.

Care Instructions

The Deep Clean: Every 2 to 5 years, have the rug professionally "wet-washed" by an Oriental rug specialist.

What to Avoid: Never steam clean or dry clean an Anatolian rug. The heat and chemicals will strip the natural oils from the wool, leaving it brittle and prone to shedding.
